Grand Lady freshens up

Hacklewood Hill Country House (formerly Essendene) has undergone a refub. The beautiful country home is a part of the PE Hotels group.  Built in 1898, by William Thomas Mattingley,  Hacklewood has undergone some changes, additions and soft refurbs over the years, but has always managed to maintain her dignified Victorian demeanor whilst catering to the travelling public. Interior designer Alison Van Zijl, is in charge of the team that will be carefully and tastefully undertaking the face lift and we can’t wait to see what she delivers!

Many of the home’s very valuable antiques and furniture will be included in the subtle refurb that will bring the practical needs of the modern day traveler under the soft touch of Hacklewood’s Victorian grandeur.  Alison told Sure Maritime Travel that the main dining room, the Yellow Lounge and two bedrooms will be attended to.  “The idea is to minimalize and simplify some of the fabrics, furniture and paint, but retain the charm of the old house.  Wifi and computer plug points, hi-tech shower heads and functional desks are just some of the enhancements we are making”.  Says Alison, “merging the old and the new, is a very challenging prospect, but the main directive is to reserve and indeed enhance the charm of this beautiful old house by simplifying and modernizing with subtle touches here and there!”.
