Hurricane Sandy, warnings and status

Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall along the Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and New York coastline on Monday 29 October. 

Strong winds, heavy rain, flooding and dangerous sea conditions are forecast, resulting in widespread power outages and severe travels delays.

Forecasters warn it may collide with a cold front from the West to form a “superstorm that could affect the Eastern Seaboard

Mass transit system services are suspended in New York, Washington and Philadelphia.

A state of emergency has been declared in Massachusetts, Maryland, New York and the District of Columbia.

Airlines, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Air France, have cancelled all flights in and out of New York and other US east coast destinations as Hurricane Sandy approaches. 

Delta Airlines flights between Johannesburg and Atlanta are operating as normal, but connecting flights to and from East Coast airports may be affected. 

South African Airways (SAA) advises customers that due to the weather conditions caused by “Hurricane Sandy”  the following SAA flights

to and from New York, Washington and Dakar will be cancelled.

SAA ticketed customers affected by the New York, Washington and Dakar flight cancellations will be offered the following assistance:

Rebooking on the next available flight (same cabin/same booking class) subject to space

Full refund, waivering all cancelation and administration fees

All date and flight change fees will be waivered

This allowance will apply to South African Airways tickets only, I.e. 083 ticket  numbers and not on any sepeae airline tickets tickets held.

The offer must be taken up and tickets re-issued by 31 October 2012

If travel is moved to a later date, all such travel must commence on/before 07 November 2012
